Talk Title: Health Innovation – An IBM Perspective

Abstract:

IBM Research has been growing its research agenda in healthcare research since 2000. Subsequently, in April 2015, IBM launched the Watson Health business unit which will focus on providing the health care community with the analysis tools required to make sense of the many forms of data used in clinical care. Our speaker will share IBM’s vision on health innovation that their research and business units are seeking to achieve. She will also share select research activities that address various key aspects of their vision.

chenBio:

Ching-Hua manages an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, data scientists and medical researchers, whose goal is to develop and test computational approaches to studying and influencing health behavior and patient decision-making.

Previously, she led the IBM Research Collaboratory in Singapore, where her team partnered with the Singapore government to create decision-support tools for traffic and environmental management. She joined IBM Research in 2005, as a research staff member in the business analytics and mathematical sciences department, where she worked on projects in the areas of semiconductor manufacturing, health care services and salesforce management.

She holds degrees in Physics (B.S.), Engineering (M.S.) and Business (Ph.D.) from the University of North Carolina and Penn State University. In 2014, she also earned a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
