Affiliation: Medical University Graz, Graz University of Technology, Austria
Andreas Holzinger is head of the HCI-KDD Research Unit, Institute for Medical Informatics, Medical University Graz, and Associate Professor at Graz University of Technology, where he teaches Biomedical Informatics and supervises engineering students at the Institute of Information Systems. Andreas holds a PhD (1998) in Cognitive Science from Graz University and a Habilitation (second PhD, 2003) in Computer Science from Graz University of Technology. Andreas was Visiting Professor in Berlin, Innsbruck, Vienna, London and Aachen. Since 2000 he has participated in leading positions in 30+ R&D multi-national projects, budget 4m+ EUR, 300+ publications, 6100+ citations, h-index=35 g-index=132.
Smart Health and intelligent ubiquitous biomedical technologies produce masses of complex, high-dimensional data. Andreas and his Group work on a synergistic combination of methodologies and approaches of two areas that offer ideal conditions towards solving big data problems: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Knowledge Discovery/Data Mining (KDD), with the goal of supporting human intelligence with machine learning – human-in-the-loop. Andreas is passionate on extending advanced methods including time and space, along with user-centered software engineering methods to create interactive algorithms and tools. Andreas is founder of the Expert Network HCI-KDD and Assoc. Editor of Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS) and Brain Informatics (BRIN).
