Sofiane Abbar (@SofianeAbbar) completed his Master in computer science at the University of Paris Dauphine, France, in 2007 and received his PhD in Computer Science (Databases) at the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, late 2010. During his PhD, he studied different models for usage and user profiling in online content delivery platforms, as part of an Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs funded project.
In 2012, Sofiane joined Qatar Computing Research Institute as Senior Research/Software Engineer in the Social Computing division. He contributed to the design and implementation of different large-scale real-time platforms for social analytics, applied to various domains such as News, Health, City Resilience, and Disaster Response. In the domain of Health, Sofiane has studied food consumption and health-related behaviour through micro-blogging platforms (e.g., Twitter and Instagram) and their implications on people’s well being. He has also acted as a PC member in various well-known conferences such as CHI, ICWSM, EDBT, and ER.
